ThingLink Welcomes Business Development Lead Joseph Mayo to the Team

ThingLink Team

ThingLink, the AI-assisted immersive content creation platform for training and education, continues to grow its global team alongside the expansion and development of its product suite, including new AI-assisted creation tools launched in March.

Latest to join the team is Joseph Mayo, appointed as Business Development Lead for Publishing and Industry Partners. We spoke to Joseph to learn more about his background, and his insights on the exciting potential of education technology, and learning and development.

Tell us about yourself and your professional background

Joseph: Originally from the U.S., I currently live and work in Italy. My 18+ years of experience in the education and publishing sectors encompasses roles as a teacher, and various positions in publishing, including sales, marketing, teacher training, and editorial work.

Most recently, I served as Project Manager for an all-in-one immersive experience for schools in Italy, which was nominated as a Finalist at the 2024 Bett awards.

What are you excited about in edtech and education?

Joseph: The possibilities are endless! I really love the idea of democratizing education and how technology and scale can bring down barriers to entry. For example, during the Covid-19 pandemic, I was able to attend the Gies College of Business – University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for my master’s degree.

Access to such a program would not have been possible 10 or 15 years ago for someone in Italy due to economic and physical limitations. That was in Higher Education, but imagine technology and content applied to lower levels of schooling. When done right you can put children of all levels and backgrounds on the same playing field, and I’ve seen firsthand how immersive technologies can do just that.

Who are you looking to connect with in your new role?

Joseph: ThingLink presents a robust solution for professionals across various sectors from business and industry to education, who are aiming to optimize their return on content transformation. Specifically, we can really empower educators, L&D managers, and after-sales accounts to develop interactive and immersive media experiences that are adaptable across a wide array of devices, from ubiquitous mobile devices to XR headsets and immersive spaces.

It’s an incredibly versatile approach. By creating content once, users can deploy it across multiple platforms, resulting in significant time and cost savings, but also ensuring usability and engagement across a shifting technological backdrop. The potential applications and future developments in this field are incredibly promising.

I’m so excited to start this adventure in ThingLink, and look forward to connecting with partners.
