Arix’s ThingLink Project

Haunted Creations is a task-based English language project designed for first-year lower secondary students at A1 level. It aims to develop descriptive language skills through creative character design, combining grammar and vocabulary with digital tools. Students collaborate in small groups to invent Halloween-themed characters, improve their descriptions using an AI chatbot (SchoolAI), and generate corresponding images with AI platforms like Ideogram or Leonardo. The project culminates in the creation of an interactive VR product using Thinglink, blending language learning with creativity and digital literacy.

What inspired this project?

Student engagement – Making language practice fun and accessible for A1-level learners. Seasonal theme (Halloween) – Using the creative energy of Halloween to motivate students. Educational technology expertise – Incorporating AI tools to enhance learning and creativity. Active methodologies – Emphasizing project-based and task-based learning for hands-on experiences. 21st-century skills – Fostering collaboration, digital creativity, and problem-solving alongside language development.

How was it used with your learners, how did they experience it?

How the project was experienced: Engagement: Halloween theme and AI tools sparked excitement and active participation. Collaboration: Students worked together to create and describe characters. Digital Skills: Students used AI (SchoolAI, Ideogram, Leonardo) and created a VR product (Thinglink). Highlights and Spin-offs: Creative Expression: Students invented unique characters with special abilities. Tech Integration: The success inspired further use of AI in other projects. Impact Evidence: Improved Language Skills: Students applied new vocabulary and grammar creatively. Increased Confidence: Positive feedback on using AI tools boosted student confidence in language use.
