Introducing Simon

Based in Scotland, I’m an experienced educator with over 22 years in education. I’m passionate about leveraging EdTech for the advancement of inclusive learning and celebrating diverse learning strengths and challenges. I’m an avid pickleball player and volunteer for Guide Dogs.

Simon’s ThingLink Project

As a curling coach with a diverse range of curlers I have been privileged to work with over the years, I’m keen to break barriers in neurotypical environments and make them all as inclusive as possible.

This project is aimed at transition and supporting neurodivergent students into the world of curling. As a sport it is a wonderful example of how diversity can be celebrated and everyone has a level playing field. No matter one’s gender, sex, age of physically ability curling is an amazing example of how to compete and team-build in an inclusive sport. This ThingLink is designed as a developing project on how to provide safe expectations towards the sport.

How was this project delivered and were there any other spin offs as a result of your project?

We used the ThingLink with the team at Murrayfield ice rink and on several Teams sites, embedded to students (and prospective curlers) to be able to explore before visiting the noise and brightness of the curling rink.

Do you have any other fun ThingLink projects that you’d like to share with us?

Here is a fun one I made whilst visiting Banff, Canada. The restaurant was amazing and I wanted to make it as accessible as possible to those who often find menus confusing with elaborate text.

What do you love about using ThingLink?

The ease and impact of how to make a simple topic or even a single image, as accessible and relevant to a diverse audience. A complete game changer for which I am eternally grateful to Louise Jones for bringing into my life!
